Gilles-Gauvreau Tribute Award presented to Angelo Trépanier

This year the Gilles-Gauvreau Tribute Award was presented to Angelo Trépanier, a producer from Saint-Thècle in the Mauricie region. Angelo served as member of the Citadelle cooperative’s board of directors for nearly 20 years and as director of the Mauricie maple producers’ union in the early 2000s.

In addition to his cooperative work, Angelo has always been a staunch promoter of maple syrup quality. He has been a maple producer for over 50 years and has provided over 4,000 hours of training on syrup quality across Quebec. He has served as judge at the annual Sugarmakers competition on many occasions and has earned the title of Master Sugarmaker four times. He has always defended the Federation’s role with respect to the inspection and quality assurance of maple products.

Ever the innovator, Angelo experimented with fall season maple syrup production and its impact on the subsequent spring harvest, all the while respecting the health of his sugar bush. He also made his mark in forest management. He even earned the Mauricie–Bois-Francs Forestry Merit Award for the quality of his management work and its impact on the productivity of his sugar bush.  Angelo is also an avid collector of chainsaws and owns over 400.

In short, Angelo has always been an ardent Quebec advocate for quality maple syrup and smart forest management. Federation president Serge Beaulieu presented the Gilles-Gauvreau Tribute Award to Angelo and his spouse, Anita Saint-Amant, at the Federation’s annual banquet on November 22.
